VP Records Featured in New Book Celebrating New York’s Independent Record Stores

VP Records, one of New York City’s longest-running record stores and the world’s largest independent distributor of reggae, dancehall, and soca music, has been featured in the newly released book Vinyl NYC: 33 1/3 of the Best Record Stores Across All Five Boroughs.
Operating in Jamaica, Queens since 1979, VP Records was founded by Vincent and Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin and remains a cornerstone of Caribbean music culture in the United States. The retail store offers new and used vinyl, CDs, and cassettes, as well as Caribbean apparel, books, poster prints, and music-related merchandise.
Co-founder Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin, now 88 and widely known as the “Godmother of New York reggae,” continues to be an active presence at the shop. She regularly appears behind the turntables, hosts Record Store Day celebrations, leads artist meet-and-greets and book signings, and supports community initiatives through her foundation dedicated to music and arts education for underserved youth.
Vinyl NYC highlights VP Records as a standout among the city’s independent shops, recognizing its historic role and ongoing cultural impact. The book is available now through local booksellers and major online retailers.
