VP records is proud to host a New Artist Showcase on Thursday May 18, 2017 at Milk River in Brooklyn from 8-10pm. Among the scheduled performers are reggae sensation and headliner Spiritual, son of reggae legend Augustus Pablo, Addis Pablo and fresh talent from VP Records’ affiliate label, VPAL Music, Prince Royal and Mark Balet. The industry event will allow attendees to network and meet VP Records’ A&R.
In his first performance in New York since his album release, Spiritual will hit the stage with debut singles ‘Time Has Come’, Stand Up for Rasta’ and more. His music takes reggae music back to the Bob Marley era as he embraces his culture to create effortless classic reggae music. “Authenticity can be heard in every note,” states famous music journalist John Masouri. Before taking up Rastafari culture, he sang in a choir in his hometown, Allman Town Jamaica. Fast forward to now, his debut album “Awakening” produced by Oufah Music (Shabba Ranks, Omi), blends his desire to help those around him with his infinite passion for music.
While Addis Pablo is notoriously known for being the legendary Augustus Pablo’s son, he is a legend in his own right as he paves his musical journey. His father’s influence can be heard in sound of his melodica playing, which he strives to play as well as his father did in his prime. His debut album, “In My Fathers House” was released in 2014 and since than he has continued to make riveting music. As of recently he has spent a lot of time promoting his projects with Ras Jammy and Jah Bami of the collective, Suns of Dub, whom recently released “Riddimentary: Suns of Dub Selects Greensleeves” which was released on April 28th.
In addition to Spiritual and Addis Pablo, will be Prince Royal and Mark Balet, two acts from VPAL Music- an affiliate label within VP Records which helps to develop independent artists and record labels. The two acts will open up in a VPAL music showcase. Emerging roots reggae artist, Prince Royal merges Roots Reggae with Rocksteady, Lover’s Rock, and Dub. The St.Catherine, Jamaica born artist wants his music to focus on spreading Jah’s word. His latest roots project “Kandah Way to Foothills Way” explores his experiences with moving from his home land in Jamaica to America where he now resides in Bloomfield Connecticut. His new album “Mental Revolution” will be released this summer.
Contemporary reggae artist Mark Balet, a Brooklyn native, has developed his global style of reggae over the years from his travel to different countries with his military and diplomat parents. Performing at various reggae sound systems and open mics led him to creating his first French Studio album, Eternel. His latest English album, Nawa was released on March 24th and features the single ‘Keep it Raw’.
“VP Records new artist showcase allows our artists to expose their music to an industry audience who can hear them perform and offer unwavering support,” said Richard Lue, Director of Business Development for VP Records. “We are very excited to bring a great roster of artists on May 18th and we feel confident that they will be part of the new wave of upcoming reggae sensations.”
