Romain Virgo Wins “Male Reggae Artist Of The Year” At 2024 Caribbean Music Awards. Several Other VP Records Artists and Projects Receive Substantial Wins and Nods.
The second annual Caribbean Music Awards took place on August 29 at the iconic Kings Theatre in Flatbush, Brooklyn, bringing together artists, industry professionals, and fans to celebrate and recognize outstanding achievements in Caribbean music. It also marked the beginning of a weekend of Caribbean festivities, culminating in the annual West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn on September 2. Throughout the evening, VP Records’ artists and projects made a strong impact, both with their performances and in the nominations.
We extend our congratulations to Romain Virgo, who was awarded Male Reggae Artist of the Year, in a field that included Christopher Martin, Beres Hammond, Shaggy, and others. The win follows the release of his latest studio album, The Gentle Man, in March. Since then, Romain has been on an extensive tour, bringing his live performances to festivals and headlining shows across the globe.
We also congratulate Shaggy, who earned the Reggae Collaboration of the Year award for his hit song “Mood” featuring Kes, released through a partnership between Ranch Entertainment and VP Records. The track served as the lead single on In the Mood EP, a soca-inspired project that brought together a wide range of Caribbean talent such as Konshens, Skinny Fabulous, and more. Shaggy was also recognized with a nomination for Reggae Video of the Year for “If You Like Pina Coladas,” his collaboration with DJ Cassidy and Rayvon.
Halfway through the show, Christopher Martin delivered standout performances of “Mama” and “Cheater’s Prayer.”
We are also proud of Jah9, who was nominated for the 2023 Reggae Impact Award, a recognition that underscores her contributions to the evolution of the genre.
VP Records takes great pride in the accomplishments of our artists at this year’s Caribbean Music Awards. Their success reflects their hard work, talent, and the strong connection they have with their audiences. We look forward to continuing to support and promote the best in Caribbean music, ensuring that these voices are heard around the world.
