Ranking Joe’s “Saturday Night Jamdown Style” Turns 45

Ranking Joe’s impeccable set, Saturday Night Jamdown Style, celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2025, and it still sounds as fresh as ever. Released in 1980, this album stands as one of the best DJ records of the 80s, showcasing Joe’s unique DJing style and pattern. Backed by the legendary Roots Radics, with Junjo producing at the helm, the album’s sound remains unmatched in its energy and influence.

Saturday Night Jamdown Style was Ranking Joe’s second album for Greensleeves Records. The release coincided with a historic tour of the U.K. with Jah Screw representing Ray Symbolic Soundsystem—the first Jamaican sound system to tour England. The album continues to be celebrated for its innovative production and the raw, powerful rhythms that defined a crucial moment in the evolution of reggae music.
