Throughout 2025, VP Records has been celebrating 40 years of the iconic Jamaican soundsystem Stereo Mars and its associated record label ‘Skengdon’, both founded and directed by the highly influential record producer, Kenneth ’Skengdon’ Black. Digital dancehall thrillers this year have come from Frankie Paul, Sugar Minott and Tenor Saw, to name just a few and to close out the year, VP Records are dropping a double dose of SKD-produced albums: Echo Minott with Familiar Face and Leroy Smart with Musical Don, originally released in 1986 and 1988, respectively. These albums highlight the musicianship of the Skengdon All-Stars, namely Steely & Clevie, Dalton Brownie and, on occasion, Jackie Mittoo. Their creative output is balanced perfectly by the in-house engineers, Bunny Tom-Tom aka Crucial Bunny and Oswald Palmer, at Skengdon’s state-of-the-art studios in Miami – Now newly remastered and available on digital and streaming platforms for the first time.
