Peer to Peer with DJ AG

Recently, we caught up with one of the most exciting selectors on the scene, DJ AG, who’s been taking the music to the streets of Brixton.

VP: Hey AG, could you introduce yourself to our readers?

DJ AG

AG:  My name is Ashley Gordon, otherwise known as DJ AG ONLINE. I’m 39 and live in North London. I’m on a mission to spread joy and positivity through music in as many communities as possible while showcasing talent. Armed with decks, a generator, and a camera, I can be spotted patrolling the streets of London and beyond, bringing infectious beats and good vibes. My goal? To encourage people to dance, interact, and embrace the power of music to brighten their day.

VP: Your online videos have been going viral recently. Why do you think they are so popular?

AG:  I think my videos are popular because they highlight talented individuals and involve the communities I meet. People haven’t seen Daddy Freddy in years, and moments like this have given my platform a boost. Everyone is welcome. This platform is a voice for the voiceless.

VP: You play a lot of different genres in your sets, although clearly, Reggae & Dancehall have had a huge influence. How did you first become aware of this music?

AG:  My dad and uncles have a massive collection of records, including many from Greensleeves. At home and family gatherings, reggae and dancehall were always at the forefront.

VP: Let’s talk about riddims. One of your trademarks is the street freestyles in Brixton. What’s your favorite riddim to play for participants, and why?

AG:  My two favorite riddims to play are Liquid Riddim and Diwali Riddim. Both are very versatile – you can sing or MC on them, and anything is possible.

VP: Do you have any upcoming shows or projects you’d like to mention?

AG:  I’m keen to showcase more talent while engaging with local communities. Keep an eye on my social media for more dates and locations. I currently rely solely on donations (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=HU4E2AUSPHKAL), and it would be great if sponsors and brands reached out to support my mission and message.
