VP: After 2 years of no Carnival, what can we expect this year from Rampage Sound?
RS: For us Carnival is really a celebration of black culture, and feels like a meeting of ‘the tribe’, so to not be amongst our people for the past two years has been really hard, we did online / in person carnival events (with the support of VP) in 2020 and 2021 and although it wasn’t the same we felt like we did our bit to bring some enjoyment and carnival spirit into people’s lives. We’re so excited to be back on the road this year. We’ve been working hard to put together a line up of guest artists, MCs and selectors to bring the full Rampage experience – the best music from all genres, energy, great performances and just pure vibes
VP: What’s been your most memorable Carnival moment?
RS: There’s so many its impossible to pick just one but some stand outs at when Ms Dynamite first came out, people got so excited and wanted to get so close to her they almost broke the pit barriers ! Sean Paul performing around ‘Deport Dem’ times when no one knew what he looked like, playing Lethal Bizzle’s ‘Pow’ and watching the crowd go wild, plus just regular moments where you drop a big tune and get a forward, Ding Dong’s ‘Ravers Gas’ probably go the biggest response in 2019 and will be a big one this year still, having everyone sing along to Koffee’s ‘Toast’ is special, dropping a Bob Marley at the end of the day is a moment … So many LOL..
VP: What are your 3 top Carnival tunes for 2022?
RS: Skillibeng – Badman, Skeng – London, Mura Masa Ft Pa Salieu and Skillibeng – Bless Me
VP: Who would you most like to invite to enjoy carnival with Rampage this year and why?
RS: The thing about Notting Hill Carnival is that it’s so inclusive so all are welcome so long as you’re coming with good vibes. In terms of artists performing We’d love to see Skillibeng there, he’s the hottest thing in dancehall right now and I think would go down a treat, honourable mentions / invitations out to Koffee, Skeng, Giggs, Ghetts and Dave
