Gyptian, born Windel Beneto Edwards on October 25, 1983, is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist renowned for his charming voice and heartfelt lyrics. Raised in the rural parish of St. Andrew, Gyptian discovered his passion for music at a young age, influenced by the vibrant Jamaican music scene.
In 2005, Gyptian gained international recognition with his breakthrough single “Serious Times,” which addressed social issues with a distinct reggae flavor. However, it was his 2010 global hit “Hold You” that propelled him to international stardom. The track, characterized by its infectious melody and Gyptian’s emotive delivery, topped charts worldwide and earned him a Soul Train Music Award for Best Reggae Artist.
