Daniel “Chino” McGregor, born on February 12, 1983, is a standout figure in Dancehall, known for his potent lyrics, smooth voice, and a strong musical lineage as the son of Jamaican music legend Freddie McGregor. Exposed to music from an early age, Chino developed his skills by observing industry legends like Dennis Brown and Marcia Griffith, leading to a deep understanding of recording and production. In 2011, he released his debut album Chino with VP Records.
His musical journey began at nine years old in a school choir, seeing singing as his destiny and leading to performances at significant events, including one for the Prime Minister of Jamaica at age 12. Chino broadened his experience in music as a student at Wolmer’s High School, working as a selector for the sound system Omega Disco, and later gaining international experience with Slip N Slide Records in the USA. Returning to Jamaica, he embarked on a career as a rapper named ‘Cappuccino’, collaborating with artists like Papa San’s brother Bryan, and achieving success with hits like “Leggo Di Bwoy” with Kiprich.
Chino’s versatility is evident in his ability to play multiple instruments, write, cowrite, and produce tracks for various artists, including his father, Freddie McGregor. His collaboration with his father on the Grammy-nominated album Anything for You marked another significant milestone.
