Alborosie, born Alberto D’Ascola on July 4, 1977, in Marsala, Sicily, is an Italian native whose musical journey has made him a prominent figure in the global reggae music space. Inspired by the likes of Bob Marley and the Wailers, Alborosie developed a profound love for reggae at a young age, ultimately leading him to move to Jamaica in the late 1990s.
In Jamaica, he immersed himself in the vibrant reggae culture, mastering the art of production and dub, and multiple instruments. Alborosie’s breakthrough came with his 2008 debut album, “Soul Pirate,” which garnered international acclaim for its authentic roots reggae sound and socially conscious lyrics.
Known for his distinctive voice and authentic productions, Alborosie has released a string of successful albums on the Greensleeves label, from Escape From Babylon in 2010 to Destiny in 2023. His music speaks to a global audience about socio-political issues, justice, faith, and love.
Apart from his solo work, Alborosie collaborated with many in the reggae fraternity including Kabaka Pyramid and Protoje. His dedication to presenting authentic reggae sounds has earned him respect within the genre, solidifying his status. Alborosie continues to contribute significantly to the global reggae movement, bridging cultural gaps and spreading the positive vibrations of reggae music.
