VP Records, the world’s largest independent Reggae label, is proud to announce its support for the restoration of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Built in 1942, the Cathedral is considered a national monument to the brave patriotic fathers and mothers who stood against fascism — for freedom in Ethiopia and the World.
It is the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie I, his wife Empress Menen, many other members of the Ethiopian Imperial family, three patriarchs of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, and numerous patriot leaders of the occupation era, as well as other prominent members of Ethiopian civil and military society. Sylvia Pankhurst, the English anti-fascist activist who campaigned for Ethiopia’s independence and sovereignty, was also laid to rest in the cathedral’s churchyard.
The historic, cultural, and religious landmark is renowned for significant achievements in stonework, painting, glasswork, gold/silversmithing, and architecture.
In recent years, the Ethiopian Crown Council and the International Society for Imperial Ethiopian Orders have led a fundraising initiative aimed at restoring the place of worship.
Repairs needed are due to structural damage, water damage, and damage to murals; it needs new electrical and plumbing systems and a complete renovation of the main sanctuary where the tombs of the Imperial family are housed.
Le’ul Ermias Sahle-Selassie, the grandson of Emperor Haile Selassie, is an ambassador for the cathedral’s fundraising efforts. He expressed his gratitude to VP Records for their generous contribution and their solidarity with the Ethiopian people.
In response, Christopher Chin, CEO of VP Records, said: “We are honored and humbled to be part of this noble project that aims to preserve and restore one of Ethiopia’s most precious treasures. The Holy Trinity Cathedral is not only a symbol of Ethiopia’s history and culture but also a testament to its resilience and faith. As Reggae lovers, we feel a deep affinity with Ethiopia and its people, and welcome the opportunity to reinforce that enduring link between our cultures. We hope that our contribution will help bring more awareness and support to this worthy cause.”
VP Records invites its fans and supporters to join them in supporting the restoration of the Holy Trinity Cathedral by donating to the campaign’s website: https://www.ethiopiancrown.org.
