Canada’s Reggae Ambassador Takes Over Carnival Week from the Airwaves to the Streets to the Stage

Toronto Caribbean Carnival (aka Caribana 2025) was a celebration of Caribbean culture, music, and energy like no other — and right at the center of it all was SPEXDABOSS, Canada’s Reggae Ambassador and the man behind the soundtrack to your best summer memories.

SPEX did what he does best: bring the people, the music, and the vibes together. From a major Apple Music feature in NYC to street blockos, cannabis culture events, float parades, and boat rides, SPEX took Carnival to the next level. Here’s how the king of Caribbean radio ran the week from start to finish.

Toronto Carnival Takeover on Apple Music’s Ebro Show

It all started on a global stage.

SPEXDABOSS joined Kardinal Offishall, Dr. Jay, and Jester live on Apple Music’s Ebro Show for a Toronto Carnival Takeover, repping the city’s Caribbean scene loud and proud.

Broadcast across the globe, this moment set the tone for the entire weekend, showing the world what Toronto Carnival is all about — music, movement, and culture. SPEX delivered a taste of the energy to come.

July 26 — Riddim Track Live at Union Station

Before the jump-up in the 6ix, SPEX gave the city a proper community warm-up with Riddim Track Live at Union Station — bringing his legendary commercial reggae radio show (the only one in Canada) from the airwaves straight to the people.

It was a full-circle moment: reggae in the heart of downtown Toronto, with live DJ sets, giveaways, and unfiltered Caribbean vibes. This free, all-ages event reminded everyone why SPEX is the people’s DJ and that reggae runs tings!

July 30 — Carnival Smoke

Wednesday night sparked something new — literally.

SPEXDABOSS lit up the inaugural Carnival Smoke, a groundbreaking cannabis-friendly Carnival event with food, vendors, and DJs, celebrating the intersection of Caribbean culture and cannabis wellness.

The crowd was floating and the riddims were blazing. SPEX curated an atmosphere of good vibes, spiritual elevation, and community connection.

July 31 — Topless

Thursday night was pure vibes at Topless, the bashment that had the whole city talking. SPEX teamed up with DJ Young Chow (Hot 97) and some of the baddest selectors in Toronto for a night of unfiltered dancehall, soca, and crossover riddims.

August 2 — Guinness on the Road + Blocko Takeover

On Carnival Saturday, the city turned ALL the way up — and so did SPEX.

For the third year in a row, he held it down as the official DJ for Guinness on their float at the Grande Parade — delivering nonstop chunes for the masqueraders and the massive crowd lining the Lakeshore with his signature blend of reggae and dancehall bangers.

But the party didn’t stop there…

After storming the road, SPEX took the energy straight into the Guinness Blocko, where thousands came out for one of the biggest Caribana street parties of the weekend. That moment? Legendary.

SPEX didn’t just DJ — he took over Caribana.

August 3 — Summerdaze + POWER

There’s no such thing as slowing down during Carnival! SPEX turned up the daytime heat at Summerdaze, linking with Kevin Crown and top Toronto DJs for an unforgettable day party.

Later that night, he brought the thunder to the iconic POWER party with Starting from Scratch, turning up the heat with classics, remixes, and riddims that kept the crowd on cloud nine.

August 4 — FRIENDS Boat Ride + Carnival Rehab

Caribana Monday started on water and ended in pure luxury.

SPEX MC’d the annual FRIENDS Boat Ride, spreading his energy across Lake Ontario one last time. And to wrap it all up, he slid through Carnival Rehab at Cabana Pool Bar — not to spin this time, but to lime, sip, and take in the moment.

After holding down an entire week of top-tier events, the ambassador of the vibes finally got to relax.

Caribana 2025 Was a VIBE!

This year’s Caribana was everything and more: safe, successful, joyful, and full of Caribbean excellence. From fetes to floats, ganja to Guinness, boat rides to blockos — the city was alive with rhythm, culture, and unity.

And at the center of it all? SPEXDABOSS — curating the vibes, repping for reggae, and pushing the culture forward.
