On Saturday, July 29, Brooklyn came to Queens for a pop-up Sesame Carnival Mas Camp at the VP Records retail store. For hours, masqueraders modeled their gilded costumes – themed “The Arrival” around the 25th edition of VP Records’ Soca Gold compilation – as excited patrons registered for theirs, all while DJ Spice let loose some of the hottest soca tracks in the heart of Jamaica, Queens.
The event marked another milestone in the partnership between VP Records and Sesame Carnival, the largest mas band in New York City, in the lead-up to the Labour Day parade on September 4. The Sesame Carnival truck is expected to make its way down the Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn with revelers in tow.
