Frankie Paul, an iconic reggae singer, passed away last night due to kidney health complications. Born in Jamaica in 1965, Paul, whose real name was Paul Blake, was blind from birth and spent his early life at the Salvation Army School for the Blind.
Paul became inspired to be a music artist after meeting R&B superstar Stevie Wonder who performed a show in Kingston. He then crafted his expertise in not only singing but a wide variety of instruments such as the keyboard. Some of his most successful recordings included ‘Worries in The Dance’, ‘Big and Ready’ with rapper Heavy D and Supercat, ‘Kushumpeng’ and ‘Alicia’.
Dancehall artist and producer Wayne Lonesome told the Jamaica Observer Online today, “he will be sadly missed by us, his friends, his colleagues in the music business, his family and thousands of fans around the world who loved his music.”
