When it comes to making dancehall beats that dominate the streets and clubs, on-the-rise producer Taugea “Countree Hype” Dayes is one of the best. He has been steadily making his name as the creative force behind the independent record label Countree Hype Entertainment.
VP: How did you get your start in the business?
CH: I got started in the business being around the artist environment. Growing up, I was always interested in music and knew that this was the path for me. I enjoy making music and the creative process.
VP: What was your first notable project?
CH: My first notable project was Shane O ‘Take It Tell Me’ which was released in 2017.
VP: What was your first breakthrough?
CH: My first breakthrough song was also ‘Take It Tell Mi’ by Shane O. I also have to add Alkaline Cree which was released in 2020 as well as two songs with Intence which are ‘Yahoo Boyz’ and ‘Clutcha.’ All of these songs are breakthroughs for me.
VP: What are you working on now / next?
CH: I am working on a new EP called ‘Plan C’ and I just released a single with Intence and
I-Waata entitled “Airport.” I am excited about this single and like the fact that it features 2 friends performing together.
VP: What songs are you listening to on Spotify / Apple Music / Pandora / Audiomack?
CH: I am listening to the Yakuza EP as well as “Nudity” by Jahvillani, “Makanaki” by Intence as well as music from Pop Smoke and Burna Boy.
