Happy Birthday Freddie McGregor!
Known affectionately as ‘The Captain,’ performing artist, producer and songwriter Freddie McGregor has been a staple in Reggae since 1963.
Originally hailing from Clarendon, Jamaica, Freddie joined the group The Clarendonians in 1963 alongside Ernest Wilson and Peter Austin. He went on to pursue his solo career which garnered him hit songs such as “Bobby Babylon,” “Big Ship,” “Push Comes to Shove,” “Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely” as well as the chart-topping single “I Was Born a Winner.”
Freddie received a GRAMMY nomination in 2004 for his album ‘Anything For You.’Â In 2013, he received a Marcus Garvey Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Caribbean Studies.
