The New York Times Spotlights “Sleng Teng” for 40th Anniversary

The New York Times marked the 40th anniversary of “Under Me Sleng Teng” with a feature by veteran journalist Patricia Meschino, published digitally last Friday and in print in Tuesday’s edition. Featuring interviews with King Jammy, Noel Davey, Johnny Osbourne, David Rodigan, and more, the piece charts the riddim’s creation on a Casio MT-40 keyboard, its explosive debut, and its lasting influence on reggae and beyond.

The article landed the same day as VP Records/Greensleeves’ limited-edition 7” reissue celebrating the milestone.
