Echoes of Expression Unites Poetry and Music at VP Cultural Center

On September 28, the VP Cultural Center in Jamaica, Queens, came alive with Echoes of Expression, a vibrant evening of poetry, storytelling, and music led by Richie Innocent. The event featured stirring performances from poets Maxwanette A Poetess, Marjorie Walters, and VaChikepe, along with dramatist Marcia Jackson, while author Judith Falloon-Reid shared her own insightful reflections. DJ Killa Boo set the vibe with his curated sounds, and Ras Manga’s dynamic performance added another layer of depth.

With a crowd in the dozens, the sense of intimacy fostered a genuine connection between the performers and the audience. Each contributor brought their own perspective on personal and cultural narratives, creating a rich tapestry of expression. Looking ahead, the VP Cultural Center will host the Peter Simon exhibition, continuing its dedication to celebrating Caribbean art with a stunning showcase of his photography.
