Christopher Martin Creates History with Penn Relay Performance

Reggae star Christopher Martin created history with a 20-minute set at Penn Relays this weekend, becoming the first reggae artist to cap off the annual athletic competition in Franklin Field.

The event was coordinated by Irwine Clare Sr., Head of Team Jamaica Bickle, in partnership with VP Records, The University of Pennsylvania, the Jamaica Consulate in New York, Hypa Active Sounds and Jamaican Dave Productions.

Top athletes from high school, university and Olympic Development teams from the USA, Canada, Jamaica and the Caribbean compete at Penn Relays – America’s oldest and largest track and field competition. Since 1895, the University of Pennsylvania has hosted the annual track and field event at Franklin Field in West Philadelphia — the country’s oldest college stadium.

Team Jamaica Bickle is celebrating 30 years of hosting athletes from the Caribbean with meals and hospitality at the event.
